What is protein metabolism?
Each protein in the body has around 2000 amino acids in them. They are connected by links named peptide bonds. There are those proteins that are too large to be absorbed in the bloodstream that is why they are broken down during the process of digestion. That broken down protein now turns to single amino acids.
Building and breaking of proteins
Different processes that involve protein is continuously working inside our body. These processes include the production and intake of new protein and breaking down the existing protein. There are some specific proteins in our system that don’t last long in its original state because when it enters our system, the body breaks it down and starts doing its tasks immediately. There are other types of protein that live longer than the aforementioned ones due to their ability to provide structure and strength to the body.
When the protein is broken down, they are now turned to amino acids. The amino acids that flow through our blood stream are mainly utilized to build new proteins n our system. Protein-making happens each individual cell. There are specific molecules that build up the structure of protein in each cell and they gathered it from the amino acids in the bloodstream.
